Michael Palermo Biography
Dr. Michael Palermo is a native of Jamestown, New York and a 1992 Graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he earned a degree in Music Education and Performance. He received his Masters Degree from Cleveland State University in 1998. Dr. Palermo was awarded a doctorate degree from Capella University in Minnesota in July 2007. He was recognized by Edinboro University in the Spring of 2007 with induction into the university’s Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.
He has honed his skills through performing attributes and clinical workshops with the likes of: Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, David Sanborn, Christopher Holliday, Phil Woods, Allen Vizzutti, Denis DiBlasio, and Ray Brown, Eric Marienthal, Jeff Kashiwa, and Dave Samuels. Dr. Palermo has also traveled extensively across the United States as a guest artist. His appearances include jazz and concert band workshops, and various performance venues. His teaching position with the International Bands of America has afforded him international experience in such countries as Belgium, The Netherlands, and France.

In 1997 he released his debut record entitled Miles Above All, which was sold and played on several college radio stations along with local Cleveland Jazz Networks. In the summer of 2003 Dr. Palermo was invited to the "Essentially Ellington" Jazz Academy in New York, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center under the Direction of Wynton Marsalis. It was there he got to perform and study under Temple University Jazz Director Terrell Stafford and Julliard School of Music Professor Loren Schoenberg. In 2006 his second solo release “Don’t Look Back” earned him strong accreditation from JazzReview.com. The hit track “Dreaming” was on the top of the charts in Europe and Asia for over 12 weeks. “Dreaming”’s impact on album sales was dramatic. Success in the music venue was then followed with publishing success. His first publication “Warm-Ups, Scales, Patterns, and Licks” has been published through Really Good Music Publications. As to date, Dr. Palermo’s book has sold over 5,000 copies worldwide, and his second addition is due out in the winter of 2008.
Dr. Palermo is currently a Band Director for the Mayfield City School District in Mayfield, Ohio. He is a member of the International Association for Jazz Education. Dr. Palermo currently is involved with several school districts promoting and evaluating Jazz Education and does several guest appearances each year. Most recently, Dr. Palermo has joined forces with Yamaha as an active artist and clinician. He travels across the United States in his role for performances, master classes, etc. He is also endorsed by the following companies, Rico Reeds, Oleg Ligatures, and Beechler Mouthpieces. |
Dr. Palermo has just been signed by Ocean Front Records. His highly anticipated third solo release “Passions and Dreams” is now out in stores and available for purchase on his web site at www.mpalermo.com. The first track released “Lovin’ You” has already hit airwaves and is soaring up the charts. Finally, Dr. Palermo was offered an opportunity to interview at the prestigious Julliard School of Music in New York City to become the Artistic Director of Jazz Studies, but because of his passion for public education and desire to work with young students, he has decided to stay right where he is.
